Although the methodologies differ among the major surveys conducted for 2010 CIO priorities, a few themes emerge from the findings: The economy will continue to be a challenge, with many budgets flat from prior year, and for many their budgets will remain at levels of 5-6 years ago, therefore cost control and efficient operations challenges will continue to be top of mind. Repeating fixtures on the priority list for IT leaders are business alignment and a focus on business processes within their organizations, although the amount of continuing press about misalignment between IT and business units may suggest that, although these items continue to be labeled as priorities, little measurable progress occurs from year to year:

As the global economy emerges from recession, there are also a wide range of priorities for CIOs to address in their organizations. Germany, the U.S. and the UK appear to be more proactive in their approach to 2010 by adopting a greater focus on investment, innovation and overtaking competitors weakened by the recession.
